Humanize data using flowers to visualize the heartbeat as a representation of health and self-care

In this piece, I combined videos of people doing exercises and collected heartbeat data using handmade sensors. The results were the data visualize by the blooming of flowers. The athletes display on top of the garden with a blue sky and green grass background. In this piece, I explore the relationship between exercise and life, Our body is a temple, and our surroundings are extensions. I want to create a visual statement that we are only one with nature, and the sanctity of life is the same for a blade of grass, a flower, or a person.

Visualizations are the trend of our modern culture. Most visualizations are usually flatline/ flashy graphics that typically are very cold and unicolor. While researching this piece, I found many visual interpretations of our heartbeat, from the purely medical line graph to abstract 3D color. None, however, looked into the nature of a beating heart in the pure essence of maintaining life. This is why I decided to use the flower as a representation of life.
