The Crossing of Rights

The stark black and white juxtaposition of the two elements is intended to highlight the glaring inconsistency between the United States’ promises of boundless opportunity and the stark realities many immigrants face. As raids, deportations, and detention centers grow dramatically in number along the increasingly fortified Mexican border, the many cameras that vigilantly maintain the “integrity” of United States borders capture a daily record of forgotten promises. The Crossing Rights uses processing software to combine the Bill of Rights text with a video of two immigrants trying to cross the border into the United States.
